$1200 bill for inaccurate YP advertisement

I called customer service last year to let DEX know the previous advertising was not correct AND that I had not intended to renew in the first place. Apparently at some point I signed an auto-renewal that is perpetual. I now have another year of inaccurate advertising (this will be the 3rd!) and the customer service representative I spoke to did not call me back with confirmation this would not happen again next year.

Tried multiple times to cancel service from 2014. Asked for a current agreement.

They produced nothing yet bills and treats remain. They have not been transparent in their practices and auto renew setting up obstacles when attempting to cancel.

I totally agree. We have been doing business with them for over a year, when one of my tech guys really started looking at what we were getting in return for our money.

WOW. Such a rip off. Requested a breakdown to see where exactly our money was going-to no avail-no breakdown of our bills.

We closed our account and they have billed us further. We have asked them to dismiss the bill with no response and now are ready to go to small claims court.

I signed up with this company in September 2019 and shut my business down four months later. In that time dex had not produced any customer leads nor has my company been online in any of the media they said it would be.

They hacked my business phone's recorded messages that were generated from paper merchandisers and sent me the recorded messages in an email claiming it was a lead that they generated. Everybody on this forum please contact legal advice, consumer affairs,BBB, Chamber of Commerce and your congressman. Don't fill out their out of business affidavits. Instead, make your own affidavit to null and void your alleged contract with them giving them the legal 14 days to respond and send it certified mail.

Also, I had never received a copy of the wet ink contract. What they are doing is a complete scam and is wholly illegal.

There is no customer support because they are a sham. Fight back, get the word out, block them from debiting your accounts and switch your phone numbers.Put the fire to their *** and they WILL be shut down.

Bought a business who was using this Company. I asked her what they did for her.

She didn't really know but said that if you try to cancel they will shut your phone off. She honestly believed them. Once I was able to sort through other misc things she was paying for that were also worthless. I got around DEX YP.

Got the bill reduced to a minimum amount. they were supposed to give me an upgrade on their internet program. Never got a bill, then started receiving collection notices to my address with my competitors co name on it. I looked into it today and they sent me the last 3 mos bills NONE of which had my company's name and 2 had my competitors address on, 1 address being 16 mos old.

Finally called my competitor to see if she used this co. and she said no and had called them when she started getting bills from them as well.

My feeling is if YPCthey are this bad just getting the info straight in their computers they must be very inept with what they claim to do for their customers

This company was being paid for maybe 30 years through our ATT. We didn't even know it was still going on. Apparently, ATT separated from the company and they are billing directly now. I spoke with an agent who said he cancelled it but we still must pay the $104.12 for 2 months as the YP is already in print. They have class action suits against them as they have violated the law by automatically renewing service agreements with consumers without making certain mandatory disclosures. We will see.

Notify them via certified mail stating that they voided the contract and any further action on their part will result in consumer and legal actions. It must be certified mail because they must sign for it. Certified mail is a contract, YOUR contract and it will hold up in court if they fail to respond.

I'm definitely interested to join. I have emails that I've saved regarding the same issues.

I was strong armed into paying 4 months AFTER they automatically continued my account and I had paid because they said I'd be put in collections... but when I paid I specifically told the person on the phone that I was not going to need their services and because they record the conversations I specifically asked to cancel.... guess what... that didn't happen....

then I kept getting notices in the mail saying that due to past due amount I won't get any advertising and they'd stop the services... now 1 yr has passed and they keep sending me notices just received one for $1900. This company is harassing me with phone calls and won't leave messages so they can call me 2-3 times in a day which is a FTC violation in itself.

How do I sign up. We really need these kind of companies to stop and pay back the hard earned money they steal from businesses.

Hello, you are in a catch 22 with Dexyp/Thryv. This advice is only for contract renewals.

If you want them to stop calling you; you will have to call them directly by telling the department to cease and desist by phone or letter. After, this is illegal for the "collections department" to ever call you again. This should legally stop the calls. However, this will not stop the collection process.

What I found out is that the collection letters and phone calls is not really a collections department. It is an independent firm contracted by Dexyp/Thryv to harrass and call people to settle unpaid bills under the disguise of a collections department. I found out they were not a true collection agency. This is the case in 2018.

The rollover of your account was technically legal and illegal. It all depends on whether they can prove they attempted to contact you on your renewal. This is often pushed through by a yp sales representative without your consent. This happened in my case.

Please keep in mind that when you sigh up with DexYP there is a hidden clause that states they can renew your contract if they cannot contact you on the following year of your orginal contract. They state that it is to protect the customers so that you do not lose out on YP's ad listing. Ya right this is clear BS. This happened to me.

The said they sent certified letter(s) to my business that I did not contact them nor could my sales account representative for my account was able contact me. I actually called him to set up an appointment and he refused to respond. There was never any certified letter sent to my business (no proof). This is where you might have them by the balls.

Excuse my language. Request that they provide proof of the certified letter. They must by law provide a copy of the letter with proof of delivery (DexYP contract) of the document from the USPS. This is the key to their collections attempts.

In my case they were never able to provide me with any proof of certified letter for contract renewal. Remember they might be able to spit out a copy of the letter; but they must also provide the proof of delivery document (this means someone had to sign for the document sent). If they can't produce this they ain't go crap on you legally. This is where the table turns and you can request for cancellation of your account and that all subsequent payments be dismissed/voided.

This is where the you have to call YP CSR to see if they will clear the account or put account collections on hold. Ask for that CSR's email. I would recommend you start contact with emails to DexYP CSR first. The emails is your only proof that you are working with them.

All my requested recorded phone calls were all erased in or lost in my case. I was lucky that I emailed all my phone conversation discussions to the CSR on what we discussed. This was used as evidence in my case to clear my account and all bills. They admitted to everything on email and I new I had them locked in illegal activities and lies.

This took me hours of emails and phone calls to clear but I had to stop the bleeding and my time which was worth thousands of dollars. I think they waived approximately $3000 in bills due and sent me a refund $1000 to close my account and collections. I threatened that I will take them to small claims court. I still loss because they had access to my credit card orginally and was charging my account.

I had now Idea because my business had a lot of autopay bill on it. This also taught me a lesson to pay attention to my credit card statements. For all DexYP customers. Main reason for me cancelling is that DexYP also posted the wrong web address and wrong phone number (it w on my ad.

This damaged my business significantly with misdirected phone calls and website. Once my account was cancelled I noticed sharp increase in business. All of my face book, instagram, yelp, and kinda *** website I created outperformed DexYP. I am starting to think their ads actually blocked my web presence with the YP yellow pages.

These ads actually pushed my regular website and web presence down in priority as far as web presence. Best of luck, Herbert

Have been ran through the ringer with thryv, yp, dex, dexmedia, dexmedia-yp, whatever name this company goes by it should be shut down indefinitely. Our co. spends close to 1400$ on ads that subsequently never have been seen and a website that has 5 different addresses and all the time I have still been updating our pages as best as I can since they provide little to no access to any of their services available to said, "client/customer" Hortons.haley@***.com

I had to cancel my credit card to get them to stop charging me and still I received notices. I'd like to join!!

Since at least 2016 DeX media YP has billed my co.pany monthly with an unauthorized charge for digital Marketing that I demanded years ago not to include in my advertising programs. My accountant pays our CV company Bill's and I just found charges for digital advertising and marketing going back to 2016. I called DeX YP Media and was informed I had agreed to this by automatic renewal which is Road Apples and untrue.

Please read my my response to @unbeatable1. This might help you.

Contract renewals must by law have written notices sent to you by registered mail for each renewal year if the so called Sales representative could not get hold of your business. Contract are only sent out when they cannot get hold of person in charge of finances in your company. If DexYP has no proof of delivery you might be able to get a refund for all previous years. If someone in your company signed for these registered contracts you might have some problems here.

I still think it can be argued even if some one signed for it. They still have to prove a actual Sales representative came to your business to renew the contract. There might be a statue of limitations on how many years back. I am thinking maybe 4 years (this is in California).

Call CSR and ask them to produce documentation and proof of deliver and signature receipts of the contracts sent for each year. Get in on email correspondence for proof on your side. Best of luck, They fleeced me for thousands but at the end I was able co cancel $3000+ in collections and get a few bucks back ($1000 refund check). You have to do your best to talk nice to them to get this refund.

Don't get mad at the CSR unless you really have. They are just doing their job. Once yelling or arguments start you will be forced to take this up legally or in small claims. If you have all your documents in place you will likely win in small claims..

Again, you have to weigh the cost of your personal time. For me it was the principle involved. I was welling to take it to small claims and sue them for $5000.00 for each infraction. I insinuated that I would sue for up to $10,000.

They conceded. Honestly, I did not want to go to court even though I thought I had a slam shut case. The time involved was too overwelming and I had to cut my losses. This is what DexYP wants you to do; they expect unhappy customers to just pay (take it in the chin) and move on.

They have scammed thousands of businesses. I hope there will be a class action law suit. But for now this is my experience/success???. The only reason why I am able to answer this with a reply is because of the shelter in place in California.

I am losing $6000 out of pocket per week because of this. Be safe and best of luck to all of us.
